Roaming Tips

Before leaving Sri Lanka

  • Make sure your mobile number has sufficient credit before leaving Sri Lanka as your roaming services will be barred upon reaching the credit limit.
  • Check whether all the Roaming services required (voice/SMS/data) are activated on your mobile.
  • Please insert your Mobitel SIM card to “SIM slot no. 01”.
  • Make sure that APN (Access Point Name) is always selected as “Mobitel”. To change the APN settings, follow the below steps:
  • Android: Settings ➡ Wireless & network ➡ Mobile networks ➡Touch Access Point Names ➡ Select “mobitel”
  • IOS: Settings ➡ Cellular ➡ Cellular data options ➡Cellular data network ➡ Type as “mobitel”

  • Make sure to carry a 3G compatible device as much as possible.
  • If you do not wish to use data roaming facility, please block roaming data before roaming via #999#
  • Follow the below steps: Dial #999# -> 2.Roaming services -> 1. Roaming data barring -> 2. Activate and Via Selfcare App
  • Make sure to turn OFF WiFi if network update fails
  • Compatibility of VoLTE supported Destinations

  • Please note that some mobile operators are discontinuing the 3G network and the 2G is shut down. Hence, devices that do not support VoLTE (Voice over LTE) may experience connectivity issues while roaming. To ensure uninterrupted service, please make sure that your device supports and has VoLTE and activate data in below listed destinations.

    Android: Settings - Connections - Mobile networks - VoLTE calls sim 1/ sim 2 toggle

    iPhone(17.5.1 to date)

  • If one sim is on the device: Settings-Mobile Service/Data/Cellular Options - Voice & Data - VoLTE toggle
  • If two sims are on the device: Settings-Mobile Service/Data/Cellular- sims (select relevant number) - Voice & Data - VoLTE toggle

When you arrive

  • Your phone will automatically connect to one of the local networks in the visited country.
  • To select your preferred network mode manually ,you can follow the below steps:
    • Android : Settings ➡ Connections ➡Select your preferred network mode For LTE  LTE/3G/2G(auto select)
    • IOS Settings : Settings ➡Mobile Data➡ Mobile Data Options➡Tap on “Voice & Data “  & select “4G” / For Without data roaming select “3G”

  • The “Show My Caller ID” configuration must be “ON” while roaming. For settings, please follow the below steps:
  • Android: Call Settings ➡ More Settings ➡ Show my caller ID ➡ Network Default
  • IOS: Settings ➡ phone ➡ Show My Caller ID ➡ ON

 

Special Note

  • Roaming connectivity of the users who stay in one destination continuously for more than 30 days can be suspended, restricted or terminated without any prior notification or liability to the customer as it violates roaming operator agreement.
  • Speed of data roaming service and network coverage while roaming may depend on the roaming country’s network operator.
  • Roaming bill could be updated after several months occasionally due to inherent technical reasons and the customer will still be liable to pay the roaming related charges, even though it was not included in the invoice relating to the applicable period.

High cost data network list

 
DATA roaming service in following countries will be blocked for the customers concerning the high data rates.
