Mobitel partners SriLankan Airlines Offers airline ticket reservations via mTicketing platform

Monday, May 06, 2013, Colombo: For the first time in Sri Lanka, the National Mobile Service Provider, Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel along with the country’s national carrier – SriLankan Airlines offers customers the opportunity to reserve airline tickets via mobile phone. Expanding on Mobitel’s mTicketing platform, this collaboration breaks new ground, and makes it the only entity to offer this facility in the country.

Reserving an air ticket via Mobitel’s mTicketing platform is as easy as dialing 365. This will then connect you to a specialized Mobitel Travel Expert who will assist you with the booking of your airline ticket, providing all possible flights and rates as per your requirements. Once the airline ticket has been reserved, payment will have to be made at any Mobitel outlet before the expiration of the reservation. Following payment, a printed e-ticket will be handed over to the customer.

Nalin Perera, Senior General Manager – Marketing, Mobitel said, "The mobile platform is quickly becoming an important part of modern-day consumers and how they make transactions, purchase products and services and even connect with brands. The mTicketing platform has been designed especially for the Sri Lankan consumer. We already offer the reservation of train tickets, movie tickets and cricket match tickets. The addition of airline tickets to this reservation system along with the national carrier is of great honour to us. We are proud and privileged to be partnering SriLankan Airlines on this initiative and look forward to working closely with them on many more projects.”

SriLankan Airlines Chief Marketing Officer, G.T. Jeyaseelan said, “SriLankan Airlines with its latest partnership with Mobitel will be providing a more convenient ticketing option for our customers - thereby offering them a smooth start for a hassle-free journey. By implementing seamless and highly user-friendly mobile solutions we will continue to expand our reach with an added tweak to our customer relations.”

Mobitel’s mTicketing platform was first launched in 2009 and it went on to receive the mBillionth Award South Asia in 2011, under the category of mTravel and Tourism; in 2010 it also won an e-Swabhimani award under the category of e- Business and Commerce.
