With our Roaming Services you can now enjoy seamless connectivity at affordable rates allowing you to use your own Mobitel number to call, SMS, check emails and surf the net from anywhere

Prepaid Roaming

All Prepaid connections are pre-enabled with Roaming and therefore requires no deposits nor activations.

Postpaid Roaming
 

Individual postpaid customers are pre-enabled with roaming and requires no deposit nor special activations (Only Account type 01 customers) · Corporate users will require to activate roaming through the corporate account manager requesting with a letter or email of authorization from the company.

 

 

Before leaving Sri Lanka

  • Make sure your mobile number has sufficient credit before leaving Sri Lanka as your roaming services will be barred upon reaching the credit limit.
  • Check whether all the Roaming services required (voice/SMS/data) are activated on your mobile.
  • Please insert your Mobitel SIM card to “SIM slot no. 01”.
  • Make sure that APN (Access Point Name) is always selected as “Mobitel”. To change the APN settings, follow the below steps:
  • Android: Settings ➡ Wireless & network ➡ Mobile networks ➡Touch Access Point Names ➡ Select “Mobitel”
  • IOS: Settings ➡ Cellular ➡ Cellular data options ➡Cellular data network ➡ Type as “Mobitel”

  • Make sure to carry a 3G compatible device as much as possible.
  • If you do not wish to use data roaming facility, please block roaming data before roaming via #999#
  • Follow the below steps: Dial #999# -> 2.Roaming services -> 1. Roaming data barring -> 2. Activate and Via Selfcare App

When you arrive

  • Your phone will automatically connect to one of the local networks in the visited country.
  • To select your preferred network mode manually ,you can follow the below steps:
    • Android : Settings ➡ Connections ➡Select your preferred network mode For LTE  LTE/3G/2G(auto select)
    • IOS Settings : Settings ➡Mobile Data➡ Mobile Data Options➡Tap on “Voice & Data “  & select “4G” / For Without data roaming select “3G”

  • The “Show My Caller ID” configuration must be “ON” while roaming. For settings, please follow the below steps:
  • Android: Call Settings ➡ More Settings ➡ Show my caller ID ➡ Network Default
  • IOS: Settings ➡ phone ➡ Show My Caller ID ➡ ON

 

Special Note

  • Roaming connectivity of the users who stay in one destination continuously for more than 30 days can be suspended, restricted or terminated without any prior notification or liability to the customer as it violates roaming operator agreement.
  • Speed of data roaming service and network coverage while roaming may depend on the roaming country’s network operator.
  • Roaming bill could be updated after several months occasionally due to inherent technical reasons and the customer will still be liable to pay the roaming related charges, even though it was not included in the invoice relating to the applicable period.

DATA roaming service in following countries will be blocked for the customers concerning the high data rates.

Data Roaming Barring Facility

  • SLT-Mobitel offers a range of data roaming plans starting USD1 per day in more than 100 countries around the world. Dial #999# or use the selfcare app to choose and activate any prepaid or postpaid roaming plan to fit your needs today!  
  • If you do not wish to use roaming data facility, you can roam by restricting data roaming facility which allows you to use only roaming voice and SMS facility.

    • This facility allows roamers to activate or deactivate data roaming service while they roam.
    • Customers can use local data service even though data roaming is deactivated while in Sri Lanka.

    • Customers can use local data service even though data roaming is deactivated while in Sri Lanka.

    • This facility allows roamers to inform any caller that they are on roaming and out of Sri Lanka.
    • By-default the recording will be played for all roamers with no restriction.

Special Instructions for USA Customers
•Please note that USA’s 2G/3G  network has been discontinued. Therefore, user will only be able to use the 4G network. 
•For uninterrupted Roaming connectivity, please make sure to : 
-Carry a 4G compatible device & SLT-MOBITEL 4G SIM. 
-Make sure to insert SLT-MOBITEL SIM card in to the SIM slot no.1 
-Manually switch the network via your device setting.
 
Android: Apps - Settings - Connections - Mobile Networks - Preferred Network mode (type) -LTE/3G/2G 
                
Apple: Settings - Mobile data - Mobile Data options - Voice & Data – 4G 
  
-Deactivate the data barring service in order to use the 4G network. 
-Update your iOS to version 15.5 or higher & activate APN settings on your device in order to use the SLT-MOBITEL Roaming Services. 
-You may use the below steps to manually configure APN setting.
