Mobitel mLearning to empower General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University

Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, the National Mobile Services Provider, signed a strategic agreement with the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) to facilitate online learning of the university’s professional studies through the Mobitel mLearning platform, a breakthrough method of pursuing higher studies via advanced technology and a brainchild of Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel.
 
The partnership between the two entities enables Mobitel to step forward as the facilitator of an online platform for academics of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University to pursue their professional studies in their respective fields. The higher education programmes offered via the mLearning platform include Master of Philosophy/Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Law, Master of Business Administration in E-Governance, Master of Business Administration in Logistic Management, MSc. Degree in Military Science and Technology and MSc. Degree in Management. As a result, those interested in pursuing certified qualifications in these fields can now sign up at the Kotelawala Defence University and follow it online via the Mobitel mLearning platform at their ease.
Mobitel mLearning is an exclusive, globally accessible content delivery online learning platform solely conceived, designed, developed and deployed by Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel. mLearning enables academics and lecturers to connect to live real time virtual classrooms from anywhere in the world allowing students to engage with the teachers as they would in normal classrooms, with all aspects of the learning classrooms being complete for full interaction. mLearning helps eliminate traditional barriers regarding education such as wealth, remoteness and lack of infrastructure and is considered a best of the breed solution to overcome barriers of distant learning systems used throughout the world today. Many recognized academic institutions both in Sri Lanka and overseas have partnered with Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel to facilitate study courses on the mLearning platform, to empower students to pursue higher studies from any part of the world.

The General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University was initially established as the "General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy" by the Parliamentary Act No 68 of 1981 and subsequently elevated to University status by the amendment Act No 27 of 1988, thereby empowering it to award Bachelors' and Postgraduate degrees in Defence Studies. KDU is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (United Kingdom) and maintains necessary standards for educating and grooming Officer Cadets to meet the challenges of modern defence management. The Officers with exceptional performance can pursue postgraduate studies in reputed universities/institutions in accordance with the requirements of the Service to which they belong.
