Positioned as a telecom brand that cares always, the country’s National Mobile Service Provider, Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel has continuously participated in development of various activities related to education, environment and health with a humanitarian spirit. With the growing epidemic of Dengue, Mobitel has now embarked on an awareness and facilitation campaign together with the Ministry of Health.
Speaking at the occasion where Mobitel announced their partnership with the Health Ministry, Additional Secretary of Health Services, Dr. Palitha Maheepala explained that eradicating Dengue from our country needs to be a collective effort.
“In wake of the Dengue Fever widespread different corporate organizations should come forward to collectively fight against it. I’m grateful to Mobitel for leading the way in this effort. The spreading of Dengue fever is a result of none other than maintaining an unclean environment – and the best way of making one’s contribution to this effort is to simply keep your surroundings clean. As a collective effort we need to show more concern towards controlling the pertaining situation. The Ministry’s efforts to decrease the number of deaths thus far have been very successful. We have further strengthened our treatment units to support the initiative.”
He further added, “If you have high fever for more than 2 days, it is advisable to consult a doctor immediately.”
CEO of Mobitel, Mr. Lalith de Silva explained, “Denue is now a National Epidemic. Keeping our brand promise ‘We Care. Always,’ Mobitel in partnership with the Ministry of Health has come forward in this mission to create awareness amongst the public of our country. Mobitel’s recent introduction of the “Doc Call” service will be a timely initiative to help dengue victims. As such, the service will enable all mobitel customers to obtain initial medical advice at any given time from a professional doctor.”
“In addition to the above, banners have been put on display and leaflets are being distributed at branch level. We have also embarked on a campaign to build awareness via electronic mediums as well as SMS.”
The partnership between Mobitel and the Ministry of Health is being established at a time when July has been declared as the Dengue Eradication Month. This will further invigorate the message that is being sent out to the public.
