Mobitel, Sri Lanka’s National Mobile Service Provider showcased the nascent NB-IoT technology (Narrow Band Internet of Things) for the first time in South Asia at the recently concluded Techno 2017 exhibition in Sri Lanka which took place from the 13th-15th of October 2017.

The National Mobile Service Provider, Mobitel received the prestigious award for “Company of the Year for Innovation” at the Le Fonti IAIR Awards held in Hong Kong recently. The award was presented to Mobitel for its outstanding performance in the field of innovative service offerings and for its leadership in the ICT field in Sri Lanka. Mobitel is the first operator in Sri Lanka to achieve this international award and recognition.

The National Mobile Service provider together with Sirasa TV launched Sri Lanka’s first ever technology based innovation reality TV show “Kotiyak Vatina Adahasak” recently. The programme is powered by SLT Mobitel who has conceptualized the programme and it is produced and planned to be aired by Sirasa TV for local TV.

Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, the National Mobile Telecom Service Provider, announced today that it has successfully trialed 4.5G LTE-Advanced Pro Technology which is capable of achieving speeds exceeding 1 Gbps.

Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd has taken part in Infotel 2015, with the concept of connected bus halt. The stall consisted with number of new features including personalized advertising, weather monitoring, free wifi zone and a smart vending machine. Attendees of Infotel 2015 were able to experience these new concepts developed by Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd. Smart vending machine and personalized advertising were inspired by the crowd.

As an initiative of “National Scale” project endorsed by Department of Archaeology, Mobitel developed an iBeacon mobile application targeting the audience who has an interest on exploring the cultural heritage and archaeology of Sri Lanka. The said mobile application would be expected to act as an “Electronic Portal” promoting national heritage and archaeological value of Sri Lanka.

Mobitel hosted the first ever Google IO Extended Sri Lanka in 2013. Then the second event in 2014 concluded with resounding success accommodating over 3000 Google Enthusiasts. Hackathon was held successfully in 2015 for the third consecutive time at Trace Expert City - Maradana.
