Mobitel Partners ‘One Million Tree Stories’ Project by Empowering People to Sponsor a Tree via mCash

The National Mobile Service Provider, Mobitel recently partnered with Rotary and the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau in the ‘One Million Tree Stories’ project, which aims to plant one million trees in the country. Mobitel is supporting this worthy cause of protecting the country’s flora by offering the opportunity for people to sponsor one or more trees at a cost of Rs. 100 per tree either via their mCash Customer Account or via authorised mCash Retailers or Mobitel branches.

Each tree sponsored by a customer will be geo-tagged (Location Tagging) and assigned with a unique number along with the sponsor’s name at www.rotarytree.com. The plantation of the one million trees will be initially located in Kurunegala district under the supervision of the Departments of Irrigation, Agrarian Services and Forest Conservation.

Mobitel’s Senior General Manager - Marketing Nalin Perera, commented: “Sri Lanka’s forest cover has been known to be depleting over the years. This dire situation calls for a mammoth public/private cooperation to stem and restore our green spaces. Mobitel is proud to be part of the ‘One Million Tree Stories’ project, in partnership with Rotary and the Sri Lanka Tourist Board in this well-deserved initiative. We are optimistic that our large customer base and other responsible citizens of the country will join hands with us and use the mCash platform to make their contributions for the future generations.”

mCash customers can pay via mCash Customer Account through the following steps: Dial #111# through their mCash registered mobile phone, Select Pay Institutes, Select Donations, Select One Million Tree Stories, Enter mCash PIN, Enter Mobile No, Enter the amount and a SMS will be sent upon confirmation. Other subscribers can also pay by visiting the nearest mCash Retailers. This is by informing the retailer that they wish to make a donation to ”One Million Tree Stories”, and then handing over physical cash along with the contact number. Finally, an SMS will be sent as confirmation.

mCash facilitates any Mobitel customer who has registered for mCash, to use their mobile phone to donate money towards a public fund collection carried out by a charity organisation or a religious place. Non-Mobitel customers also can make a contribution for the same through mCash’s retailer network to allow everyone a chance to take part in the generous initiatives.

Mobitel has been strategically leveraging on mCash’s flexible platform to offer a host of services to the people of Sri Lanka, and this is yet again one more versatile use of its mCash service, which allows Mobitel subscribers to maintain a mobile account and experience a whole new convenient method of carrying out financial transactions.

Mobitel, the national mobile service provider, has established a strong presence in the island. ‘mCash’ was launched in November 2013 and is licensed under the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. mCash subscribers are able to deposit money, withdraw money, send money, pay utility bills, pay insurance premiums, leasing payments, make donations & even pay for goods and services.
