For the third consecutive year, Sri Lanka’s National Mobile Service Provider, Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel won the coveted ‘Excellence in Engineering’ award, under the category ‘Infrastructure – Service Sector: Large” at the Annual Engineering Excellence Awards 2012 presented by the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL).
The awards are held to encourage and celebrate the excellence in the science and the practice of engineering by rewarding the best and the finest of its members, individuals, organizations and companies in Sri Lanka for their outstanding accomplishments and achievements related to engineering.
As the National Mobile Service Provider – Mobitel has continued to deliver superior mobile experiences to its customers, via cutting-edge technology. Mobitel has become the country’s technology leader and trailblazer, being the first in South Asia for embracing and deploying many state-of-the-art technologies.
In June this year, Mobitel completed its stage VI of its network expansion – involving the total number of 2G and 3G Base Stations by over a mammoth 1,000 sites within record-breaking time. More recently, Mobitel also commenced stage VII of its mobile network expansion, which will see the deployment of over one thousand and four hundred 2G/3G and 4G LTE [Long Term Evolution] base stations. The additional base stations will mean a noteworthy increase in the network’s coverage, capacity and speed.
